This model has the same problem the 9980 has - it just doesn’t clean. We had our first service call this week on our 2 month old stainless steel dishwasher (which is 1 of 5 GE Profile stainless appliances purchased for our new kitchen). Paying more for this product is not a good measure of the quality you will receive. The dishes are not clean - there is a white powder remaining on the dishes, food is left baked on and even the inside of the dishwasher is dirty when you open it after the cycle is completed. If I could have my $500 Whirlpool dishwasher back I would. Not sure I won’t resort to that at some point, though I do love the look of the dishwasher and am pleased with how quiet it is. The Smart Dispenser for liquid detergent is a waste of engineering and money. Our technician told us this week that the liquid detergent requires a higher water temperature to dissolve than powder. Yet, you cannot use powder in the Smart Dispenser. Also, once you fill the dispenser, there is no way to flush the liquid out- you are stuck with using the dispenser until your 40 or 50 ounce bottle is gone. The energy efficient rating is based on the dishwasher only using 5 or 6 gallons of water to wash. However, if that water isn’t almost 130 degrees, your detergent will not dissolve and you will have a residue on the dishes. We have turned our hot water heater up and now worry about scalding ourselves at the sinks and in the shower(and we have warned the kids), but the liquid detergent is still leaving a residue on the dishes. I am using the added heat feature, which is supposed to boost the water temperature, but I am not finding any improvement. Once the Smart Dispenser empties, I will not use it again. I have been told by others that Cascade liquid is one of the worst for leaving films. I will use Electrasol Powerballs when the Smart Dispenser liquid is gone. I remain hopeful that will fix my problem, but given the reviews I have seen for similar GE Profile models, I am not very optimistic. I am also not sure how energy efficient it is to run gallons of hot water down the sink, just to be able to start the dishwasher. Finally, if the water must be 120 to 130 degrees at the start of the cycle (because only 5 or 6 gallons are used), how can use of the delay feature even be possible? I can’t even begin to think about using the delay feature, because I must run hot water in the sink to get the hot water really flowing, but I will say the dishwasher is so quiet, you don’t need to delay the start of the dishwasher for noise. My favorite line from our service technician this week (who I hope will not return to my house ever again) was the suggestion that I should boil water on the stove and add it to the dishwasher as it is filling. How impressive would that be for friends and family to see? Me filling a $1200 dishwasher with hot water like Laura Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie. Of course, I already basically wash the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher and then dry and clean off streaks when I unload the dishwasher. Not what I expected of such a “top of the line” product. I hope the other 4 GE appliances don’t leave me with such a disgusting feeling.
