If installing the unit yourself beware - before you begin templating, drilling, sawing, measuring, mounting, and preparing, check to see if the factory’s provided 1/4 bolts fit into the unit’s nuts. The Indonesian factory likes to send out units with 6 mm nuts. I recommend opening the box before leaving the store and determine if the bolts fit the unit. Otherwise, if you find out the hard way, then here are some helpful hints to complete your job.

1. Home Depot and Lowes carry nothing at all remotely usable to complete this job. Don’t bother.

2. If you bought the unit at Sears, don’t bother with the telephone. Support works like this: Dial Sears 800 to be greeted by pleasant automated voice and press buttons until … Incompetent-to-help global person number one listens to your story and transfers you to … Incompetent-to-help global person number two who transfers you to number three who listens to your story and recommends you call the 800 number mentioned above. When informed that would put you in an interminable loop, they give you the local repair center phone number. With this number, you have two voice choices, one being the store hours, the other being the address information.

3. Drive to the next county to find the old-fashioned hardware store that hasn’t gone under yet and get 3 3-inch 6 mm bolts.

Addendum - one month later….

Not all Maytags suffer the problem of mismatched nuts and bolts I described. My second one installed perfectly. The reason I got a second Maytag is because the first one stopped working after 3 weeks. What happens is that the instrument panel wires dangle in the chamber so that they have a sporting chance to work themselves into the exhaust fan and burn up. The service guy was willing to fix it, even though the computers were down which caused him to cause me to miss a whole day’s work. Sears was kind enough to give me another one rather than have me miss a second day of work. I recommend making sure your home owners insurance is paid up before buying a Maytag Over-the-range microwave.
