Some of the features we liked about this microwave above others were:

o internal size holds large containers easily

o wattage power allows reduction of cook time

o quick use features like “Minute Plus” and sensor cooking

o great value for the money!

After we’ve used this product for a while here are some things we don’t like:

o light bulb replacement is a real pain - it requires a factory service visit!! Our light bulb went out within a few days of purchase. It uses a specialized light bulb, rather than a normal appliance bulb, where ONLY a service visit must take place to replace the bulb. A specialized tool is required to open the microwave case, preventing end-user access to the potentially dangerous high voltage capacitor within.

o short power cord (only about 3 feet) - our previous microwave had a longer power cord so we could reach where our outlet was. This unit has a “straight-in” power cord which means you must have a couple inches of clearance in front of the electrical outlet. The plug is “engineered” so you must use a Sharp designed cord. There is NO longer cord available. (I had to put in a new electrical outlet!!)

o Yeah - it better be easier to clean - because cleaning it a LOT more you’ll be doing! This unit is 1300 watts compared to our old dead 800 watt unit. It cooks things in about one-half the time. But there are just some things that just won’t cook on “high”. They blow up right and left in the microwave splattering the insides with goo! OK, Yes, I know how to use the power level setting to reduce the power, but it’s still more buttons to push and each food item is different anyway.

o Sharp doesn’t seem interested in these little design deficiencies — so much for “Sharper minds”…. just live with it.

Overall we like this unit even if it requires a lot of cleaning. (I just don’t like baked beans, cream of wheat, tomato sauce, etc. dried and stuck to the inside constantly). I just hope that Sharp will someday make available a right-angle, longer power cord for you folks who don’t have the time and money to add a new electrical outlet.

Also, requiring a service visit to replace a light bulb is just plain stupid. I didn’t think products like that were even made any more.

On the plus side, Sharp support did authorize a “free” visit to replace the lightbulb in our weeks old unit, but we use our microwave oven so frequently we’re having difficulty giving it up for a day or more, for the trip to the service site with the bulky unit for the replacement.

One other thing is I wish they’d ship an extra instruction label applique. After you close the microwave door is when you realize you don’t know which buttons you have to push to use the “automatic” feature (sensor cooking, defrost, etc). So you re-open the door to read the label to find the number you need to push….

One last nit… the door lock mechanism on the door is PLASTIC! Most other manufactures used METAL. I know one of these days somebody is gonna walk by the open door and catch their clothes on the plastic and it’s gonna snap right off…

Get the Black unit instead of the White one! My wife wanted white…. but it shows all the gunk….. maybe black wouldn’t be so bad….
