I bought my new Avanti EC15w-2 for $69.00 from BestBuy about five weeks ago. Since I never heard of this brand before, I also bought the extended warranty for another $20 or so.

This refrigerator replaces a Sanyo 1.7 CF that I had for five years, which finally crapped-out - - probably had been moved too many times from one side of the U.S. to the other.

When I was deciding on which new refrig to buy, I noticed that the Avanti was very light weight due to its lack of a compressor. I read about its new non-compressor technology and it made sense to me. I was only going to use this for storing Diet Pepsi cans, yogurt, other lunch items at my work office.

After five weeks, so far so good. The refrig is keeping my items sufficiently cold, and I only have it on the medium setting. There is plenty of room inside, and I do not miss a lack of an internal ice box since I don’t need to keep anything frozen. The interior height is enough to put two rows of 12 oz. cans in it. The refrig does not come with a handy can dispenser on the door like the Sanyo did, but I don’t really miss it.

One thing I do notice: Yes, the refrig is relatively quiet, and you only hear the sound of a fan humming. But unlike a standard refrig where the compressor goes on and off, the Avanti fan runs constantly, and when I realized this I had to get used to it for a few days. It is not unlike a computer fan from a sound standpoint. I have the refrig about 15 feet away from me (big office, yes?) and the fan sound is now easy for me to ignore as just part of the background noises.

I am happy with my purchase and would recommend it to others. Clean, efficient styling, no compressor, no ice box to defrost, etc.

I will report back on this forum if I have any problems later, but I would expect this to run fine for some years to come.
