I am very dissappointed with my now former GE microwave oven. I bought this microwave oven two years ago from Lowes Hardware store and used it a few times a week, mostly for reheating food. Last week, while heating a cup of coffee, it started sparking and shorting. There was a power drain from the microwave and the oven made funny noises. The only thing in the microwave was the microwave friendly cup of coffee. I subsequently tested it again (outside to protect my house) and it did it again. There was a clear smell of burnt rubber, and I shudder to think what could have happened to my house if I walked out of the kitchen when I ran the oven. Repair is outside the warranty period and will cost more than the oven is worth, so now I have to buy a new microwave. This time it will be a Sharp Microwave, since they are much more reliable and get better overall reviews. From my online research, Sharp consistently gets good reviews from buyers, while GE’s tend to get poorer reviews. GE’s in particular get poor reviews on reliability. Sharps tend to last many years too, according to the reviewers.
