After paying for a relatively high end dishwasher, I expect a much more convenient installation and much better performance.
The pictures on the installation guide did not exactly match the unit, and though I am an engineer and had hired a professional plumber who installs lots of dishwashers, we had a hard time figuring it out. In particular, there are two pieces of trim on the front of the unit which need to be removed to do the install. The instructions suggest testing for leaks before replacing the trim; this is understandable because the trim blocks visibility of leaks. However it turns out that the trim is part of the seal for the bottom of the door, and by testing without the trim we end up with water on the floor, and having to solve the mystery of where it is coming from.
When I purchased the unit, the Maytag specialist (a Maytag employee) told me that unlike the other units I was looking at, this unit would perform a 160 degree wash. There is in fact a “160 degree wash” control button on the door. It was my desire that this would help disolve baked on food during the wash.
However, after installing the unit and upon reading the manual, it turns out that the 160 degrees only applies to the final rinse!
There was a mystery indicator that had the mark “3″ and was not in the users guide. It turns out this is the child lock which is activated or deactivated by holding the adjacent button for 3 seconds.
When I tried to contact Maytag support, their phone line was busy 9 tries out of 10, and the person I finally reached either denied the problems or was not willing to take meaningful corrective actions.
I also found this three rack system relatively hard to load and unload. Particular attention must be paid to making sure the spinners are not blocked by tall items in the bottom two racks, or the dishes will surely come out dirty.
