I was in the market to replace a KitchenAid dishwasher that hadn’t held up (another story!)and had three friends with Maytag dishwashers recommend the Maytag. I had stayed at one of their homes a few times and used the Maytag myself and loved it.

So, I went to the Maytag store to buy my Maytag dishwasher and the sales guy talked me into the Amana instead. He said that it performs just as well, is less expensive, and is quieter. Unfortunately, I believed him.

This dishwasher cleans most dishes and flatware OK, but not great. I have had it for two years now and sometimes I get streaks that really show on the glasses. I’ve monitored and it isn’t related to the soap, the rinse agent, how crowded the dishwasher is or how fresh my softener salt is. It just seems kind of random, though after two years, it is becoming more frequent.

Also, the flatware container is a problem. It is on the door, which seemed like an advantage at the store because it allows more room for dishes in the main compartment. However, if you don’t load it just right, the bottom dish rack gets stuck on the flatware when you try to slide it in and out for loading. It doesn’t do the greatest job cleaning the flatware either. Too often, I find “rejects” when unloading and despite always using the heated dry cycle, pieces tend to get rust spots and I end up scrubbing them every few weeks.

I really regret not going with the Maytag.
