When I decided to write this review on the Euro-Pro SC618 Handheld Steam Vacuum (Shark Steamer)I was surprised to find it under steam vacuums since it’s definitely not a vacuum. Instead, it’s a steam cleaner unlike any other.

I requested this product as a Christmas gift one year after seeing infomercials and thinking it was right up my alley: No harsh chemicals to breathe in or get on your skin. Natural boiling water blasts dirt out of crevices and sanitizes. No more rotten old toothbrush laying around. Of course on TV, everything melted like candle wax and was so cooperative…while in the next frame a woman was sweaty and crouched in a small area choking on poisonous fumes praying for a miricle…that was me, I was sold.

HOW IT WORKS:

You fill the bottom with water according to the handy measuring cup provided with your steamer. It is important to use this thing, since too much water will cause sputtering much like an overfilled steam iron. Next, plug it in. A red light will display at the bottom telling you the unit is on, in about 60 seconds it will turn blue telling you the water is hot and ready to use. Have a paper towel or rag ready and pull the trigger a couple of times with the nozzle pointing to the subject to be cleaned, (my favorite is window sills) and let the blast of steam blow all the dirt and grime out of the corners where you can easily wipe it out. Simply pull the trigger every time your ready for the next blast of steam and watch the dirt and grime melt off.

I’ve used the Shark Steamer on my dishwasher where all the little grooves and lines collect dirt. My refrigerator: it really works well on the magnet around the door seal, where dirt tends to settle.

The stove: baked or burnt on grease and food takes a bit more time, but with some patience it too will succumb to the awesome power of the steam.

The microwave! It’s perfect for blasting cooked on food from all the tiny corners inside and out!

This thing is especially awesome for in the bathroom, blasting hot sanitizing steam into those nasty creases and crevices on your toilet leaving behind nothing but clean with no harsh fumes or chemicals. I could go on and on about what you can use this thing for! It’s lightweight, compact and so easy to use.

WHAT IT COMES WITH

-A gratuitous 6′ chord so it goes almost everywhere you need it without an extension.

-A measuring cup for filling the unit

-3 scrubber heads, each a different color so you can designate one to the bathroom, one for dishes and the last for whatever else you might use it for.

-A window squeegee to squeegee away excess water from your windows and mirrors for a streak free shine

-A spot cleaner with removable, reusable cloth cover. This is for spots on the carpet, where you steam as you scrub to lift any problem spots without an expensive steam vacuum. The cover is removable and washable, completely reusable.

Please remember that this is a Steam cleaner, and the water and steam leaving the nozzle is boiling hot. Please watch small children when using this product. This is not to be used on electronic items or telephones. To state the obvious, water and electricity do not mix, care should be taken with this product as with any other cleaning products to avoid unnecessary injury.

BOTTOM LINE:

I love this product and use it whenever it is time to clean small stubborn areas. (windowsills) It’s high powered blast of steam cleans out the most stubborn crevices with plain old water, at a sanitizing 120 degrees; eliminating the need for harsh cleansers that contain skin irritants and harsh chemicals that can damage your lungs.

While you may still want to have a collection of cleansers for big jobs, the Shark Steamer is ideal for those hard-to-clean places that even a toothbrush has a hard time getting to, but germs and filth reside with gusto. (Did I mention windowsills?)

PRICE:

A gift. However, it can be found on Amazon for around $50.00. A really good deal since I’ve seen them elsewhere for as high as $90.00. This is an as-seen-on-TV product, so I’m unsure if they can be found in local stores.
