GE Profile Harmony DPGT750EC Electric Dryer Review You’re crazy if you didn’t love it. . . . I love the washer, the dryer is also fabulous!! The washer communicates with the dryer to let it know the type of load that was just washed...

Shopping for a today is a far cry from the last time you may have visited your local appliance store. You are hard pressed to find an appliance store for one, opting for a trip to your local home store instead. Once there you likely are faced with machines that push the envelope feature-wise, and all of a sudden you find yourself studying features you never considered.

On a recent shopping jaunt to outfit a rental property we were confronted with the GE DPGT750ECWW, a that “talks” to its companion washer, as the salesman put it. I was intrigued and based on the fact that I had been a fan of GE for ages, I bought it because its capacity and reputation, cavernous 7.3 cu. ft. capacity although uncertain about the extraneous features.

As part of the GE Profile series of appliances, I went in with high expectations based on numerous Profile purchases in the past. Nice appliances make for a good presentation when staging a property, as consumers seem to favor nice appliances. Featuring a stainless steel drum, the DPGT750EC looks big and impressive. Standing in front of it in the showroom, I couldn’t help but think that washday would be a matter of a couple of loads and as many hours. That proved quickly to be an illusion. While I like the fact that it has such capacity, it really is wasteful doing smaller loads.

Impressions

The DPGT750EC is quite effective at drying clothes albeit at rather lengthy dry times. Granted the interactive settings allow you to bypass recommended dry times communicated via theClean Speak system. I have generally found the interaction between the washer to be flawed and often you have to override recommended dry times.

Choosing proper load settings, you have the option to choose from five heat selections from the interactive LCD touch screen, with a numerous choice of cycles including:

Cottons

Delicate

Easy care

Knits/sweaters

Mixed loads

Optional dryness levels

Specialty cycles

Timed Dry

Wrinkle care

Air Dry

Extended Tumble

Speed dry

Controls are minimal with six controls aside from the interactive touch screen on the panel including:

Power - On/Off

My Cycles - Both Preset and User Custom Cycles Accessed here

Back - Take you back to previous screen

Home - Return to home screen, generally to start setting selection over

Start/Stop - Do I have to explain?

Help - Troubleshoot common user mistakes or errors

There is a moisture sensor that presumably curtails dry times as it senses a lack of moisture that works fairly well, yet is far from foolproof as we have found it necessary to over ride this feature as well. A feature I do like on the DPGT750EC is the custom settings feature, where you can save and name your own cycles based on user experience, giving you an endless array of possible and personal dryer settings. A wrinkle guard or de-wrinkle feature is effective when you cannot attend to the dryer or are otherwise preoccupied, assuring your clothing comes out with little or no ironing, which it does quite well.

The GE DPGT750ECWW takes up a moderately sized footprint at 29” (D), 43.25”(H) and 27”(W) weighing in at 137 lbs., which is generally heavy for a dryer. Noise is likely no greater than your current dryer and it fits rather nicely in an appliance closet.

Final Thoughts

The GE DPGT750ECWW is a good form a solid manufacturer with years of expertise producing appliances. Backed by a 2 year appliance warranty with a five year drum/electronic panel coverage, you are assured the company will be there when you need them. having dealt with GE for years I can personally attest this as fact.

What I don’t like is the unnecessary programming while simple, falls more under the flash with no substance category. The large drum is a nice feature if you habitually clean large loads. I personally find dry time a bit lengthy and the necessity to over ride the inter- communications annoying. Generally speaking we like to run our appliances in the properties are being worked on as a matter of convenience and the general consensus is simpler would be better, though I offer that advisedly as there are always two sides to consider when user habits and preferences are involved. I don’t feel the plethora of choices are generally applicable to the average user demographic, there will be those who welcome such versatility.

That said, if you are looking for an effective laundry partner, and are aware of the caveats going in, I can say you would not make a mistake with the GE DPGT750ECWW and would likely get many years of service out of this model.
