In November 2006 we had to buy a new dishwasher when the one that came with the house we bought went kaput. We did a lot of research online and opted to go for the GU2700XTS in black (to match the other appliances in our kitchen).

We’ve now had it six months and I think I’m ready to review it - and give it a GOOD review at that.

Things I like about it:

1) The silverware holder on the door. I didn’t think I’d like this feature, but I find that after six months I don’t think I’ll ever go back. By having all the utensils be on the door, I have that much more space for dishes in the main machine. Also, by having it on the door I can fit a LOT MORE flatware in that holder than when I had the basket in the old machine. So having the silverware holder on the door is a big plus in my mind.

2) Adjustable rack - the top rack can move up and down depending on how much space you need on the lower rack. Around the holidays when we were jamming that thing with dishes, the ability to wash HUGE platters in that dishwasher was a godsend. No more huge platters and bowls hogging up my sink area - I just put them in the dishwasher!

3) Upper rack layout - the layout is only a little bit different, but being slight deeper I can also fit larger things on the top rack if I put it to the lowest height setting. That’s great when you have plastic dishes that are not supposed to go on the bottom rack.

4) Multi-cycles. The power scour setting rocks. Things come out spotless on that cycle. We’ve also use the rinse cycle when we had dishes but weren’t quite ready to run the machine. This way whatever food was still on the plate didn’t stick to the plate until it could be washed. We’ve only tried a couple of the other settings, but we’ve liked what we’ve achieved thus far when these dishes get washed.

5) Lockable door. Gone is the lever that you have to flip from right to left to lock the door. Now with a mere press of a button the door is locked so that curious little toddlers can open the door and play with the dirty dishes. That is invaluable for those of us that wash sharp knives on a regular basis.

6) Sound. Our old machine was REALLY LOUD and we could only run it at night when everyone was going to bed, because when it ran you couldn’t hear the TV in the next room. This machine does make a modest amount of sound (since it is connected to the sink pipes, it makes sense that we’d hear SOME sound coming up through the garbage disposal), but it is minimal and a lot more quiet than machines I’ve heard in other homes.

Thing One Thing I Don’t Like:

1) Long wash cycles. We had one load go over 80 minutes. 80 MINUTES. That’s a long wash cycle, in my opinion. I don’t remember my old machine taking that long. However, since we mainly run the machine at night, I can’t complain too much. But if I ever need a “quick load” to get done, it may just be easier to wash them by hand than wait for the machine to get it done.

Overall, I still recommend this machine. We hardly ever have issues with items coming out with crud on them - maybe one or two loads in the past six months? It is a good machine and other than the time to wash issue, I have nothing but good things to say about it!
