Purchased this fridge in September 05, it broke down in May 06. Same problem as previous reviewer - no cool air in the fridge but the freezer was fine.

Maytag Service - “How does June 13th sound?”

Managed to have the tech come the next day and was given a window of 7am to 5pm.

Tech shows up at 6pm.

“Its the evaporator motor. I don’t have one in my van but the warehouse should have one. I’ll have to reschedule to come back and fix it - how does June 13th sound?”

Have you ever tried living without a fridge for 2 weeks in California when it’s 80 degrees in the house?

Call Maytag service - the parts will have to be ordered and will take 2 weeks. Transferred to parts, they have the part. Transferred to dispatch - reschedule for June 02 [this took over an hour total on the phone].

Tech arrives around noon. Quick job replacing the evaporator motor. Turns out that Maytag had ordered a bunch of these motors from a different supplier. They’re finding that they have a life span of around 3 to 4 months and they’re replacing them with the original motors.

Starting to wonder if I should have bought Maytag appliances last year.

As far as the unit goes, it’s otherwise pretty robust. You have to be careful with the bottom drawers of the fridge as they can get caught when pulling them out. In hindsight we probably should have got the cabinet depth with the dispenser on the front but we got a good price on this one from Pacific Sales on a holiday weekend.

Maytag have since been taken over by Whirlpool so it remains to be seen what happens down the road.
