We have well water that is still hard after treatment, so the internal water-softener was a plus. There is a noticeable difference in the dishes when the system has salt. The problem has been that the computer chip inside the unit does not last. The repairman who repaired our dishwasher under warranty scavenged a control board from another unit at ApplianceSmart. It was an easy repair as he merely switched the circuit boards contained behind the front panel (several small screws removed) but Ariston does not support the product, so it is currently unknown where we might locate additional circuit boards. The repairman said that he prefers dishwashers that have manual control panels. He repairs them less than electronically controlled units.

The dishwasher is shorter than standard U.S. dishwashers, but this was not an issue for us. It does not have an internal water-heater nor a disposal unit, but is quiet and efficient, and cleans dishes that have not been rinsed beforehand. The filter on ours rarely needs cleaned so the water pressure inside pulverizes the food particles. Dishes dry if the door is left closed overnight or a few hours. Very economical and efficient use of water.

If this unit had not broken within the first year and if I had access to spare parts I would rate it higher. As it goes, I was greedy and thought that I was buying a super dishwasher at a terrific discount and ended up with a good dishwasher that may be doomed because of a circuit chip. If it lasts, it is not a lemon.
