I wanted to get my own SteamVac for years. My husband however preferred to rent the good old Rug Doctor, which was okay, but when you total the cost of renting the unit, it’s like buying a new SteamVac twice a year!

Having two cats and a big dog causes a lot of wear and tear on my carpet, so I needed something that would keep the carpet clean and looking new.

The Hoover V2 has all the bells and whistles I was looking for;

There is some assembly required but it is so easy, all that I need is a screwdriver. It takes less than 5 minutes to assemble the whole thing.

The wash/rinse feature is awesome, when you set it to wash and pull the trigger, the detergent is sprayed onto the carpet, it covers about 10 inches wide. When you set it to rinse, only water will be sprayed onto the carpet. I go over the carpet twice on rinse mode to remove the detergent as much as I can; as I hear that residual detergent attracts dirt more.

The automatic detergent dispenser is a nice feature as I do not have to measure the detergent, just fill the dispenser and off I go. I clean my carpet regularly and there are times that I do not use detergent at all, just hot water. My SteamVac came with Hoover’s own cleaning detergent, but I have been using Bissell’s brand lately and it works just as well.

This machine has a 12 amps motor, which provides enough suction power to leave the carpet dry in less than 2 hours. The heated cleaning feature is somewhat of a misnomer, as it has nothing to do with keeping the water hot, but refers to a technique that injects hot air into the water dispersal nozzles, thereby resulting in a hotter detergent solution reaching the carpet.

I like that I can strip down parts of this unit for easy cleaning. This model has 5 removable brushes, and a removable plastic suction foot. Removing the suction foot is a little confusing at first, both tanks have to be removed and the machine laying on its back on the floor before removing the suction foot. I rinse mine in hot water only and I let it dry before putting it back.

I especially like the Spin Scrub hand tool for cleaning area rugs and the mats in my car and it does a great job cleaning them too! The beige mats in my car are now back to their original color and plush after cleaning them with the Spin Scrub hand tool.

Both tanks are transparent so I can see the disgusting water in the bottom tank and that just tells me to redo the carpet again until the water is clean. The filter has an awesome design, no more touching the icky stuff that the SteamVac collects! All I do is empty the bottom tank into the sink, turn it upside down and run the water through the filter.

The water containers appear to be low quality plastic. I don’t understand why Hoover would use plastic of such low quality. The tanks are the two things that are constantly removed and replaced. The recovery tank (bottom tank) has latches on both sides to secure the tank in place, again the plastic latches appear to be poor quality.

I have been using my SteamVac since August and I have used it about 9 times so far, no leakage or breakage on any parts to report.
