We had a GE dishwasher that lasted over 15 years. As there are 7 children in this house, I didn’t want to go one day without a dishwasher so when that one finally died, we decided to go with a Maytag. We purchased at American, and had to pay extra to have it quieted, which I found odd. But for the price, it was still a little bit less than the other ones. We believed the Maytag commercials about how the guy who has to fix other things because these don’t have problems. Ours did. We experienced loud grinding noises within the first week of use. Also the control panel would blink and then turn off, at the start of cycle. It took several weeks to get it fixed. Washing dishes from 7 children by hand, I wish I would have went with GE again! (I’m trying to leave the American Appliance repairman out of this, but he had EVERYTHING to do with why it took so long to fix.)

I have found that I can fit less dishes into this dishwasher than my previous one. Bowls fit too close together. Plates are fine, but with children and oatmeal bowls, I have to spread them farther apart than the slots or they don’t come clean. It doesn’t have a very clean rinse. I can’t put pots & pans in it, if I’m also washing glasses. The glasses don’t rinse clean. I do like how it has a sanitize option, however I have to put baby toys & bottles/cups in a seperate load so they rinse clean. I know I sound like I’m still using a very old dishwasher, but ours is still only a few months old!

Also the cycles seem to be very long. We’ll set it to regular wash with no power anything, come back about 45 minutes later, and it will STILL be running. I don’t think it’s very energy efficient. It also doesn’t automatically shut off when it’s done. Instead, you’ll see the “clean” green light on. You have to press start, then cancel to turn this light off. What a waste of electricity if you don’t turn it off manually.
