We bought this dishwasher from Sears in August 2006, and it didn’t work for over 15 months. Sears installed it. When it wouldn’t work the Sears tech said it was probably installed wrong. After over a year and hours on the phone and multiple visits by Sears, they couldn’t fix it, so I finally called KitchenAid. They sent another service provider, A & E, to see if they could fix it. After standing us up for three appointments, they showed up but couldn’t fix it. Both the Sears and A & E technicians told us that this model (KitchenAid KUDD01DPPA – two drawer unit) just doesn’t work. KitchenAid finally sent another service company - Betty’s Home Appliance. The Betty’s tech diagnosed the problem (bad valve) and fixed it with no problem. Now it runs fine. It took over 15 months. The reason KitchenAid didn’t get Betty’s involved earlier is that they charge more for the service. You get what you pay for in this case!

If you are thinking of buying this unit - don’t buy it from Sears. Buy it from Betty’s or someone who can service it. Don’t let KitchenAid send the standard service option - A & E. They’ll waste your time.

In the process I spent hours on the phone with KitchenAid and they just don’t seem to care. If you try to talk to their executives, they refuse. You only talk to people who keep saying they are sorry but can’t fix it. I called their executives offices to get beyond the standard processes that never resolved the problem after 15 months, and they have a special group there who shields their executives and does the same thing - lots of talk and no fix.

Jeff M. Fettig is the CEO - and his company is responsible for KithcenAid, Whirlpool and Maytag. I’d advise against buying any of those brands given my experience with this unit and a prior bad experience with a Maytag.
