Admittedly, I never would have bought this for myself. I’ve long subscribed to the idea that carpet stain removal was something that had to be done by hand and required elbow grease.
“There is positively no way that this little machine, which looks like a Dustbuster on steroids, could possibly be a solid performer,” I thought.
But when some friends gave me a SpotBot for the holidays, I fought the urge to return it to a local retailer. Instead, I decided to try it … and THEN return it.
The better part of a year later, the SpotBot and I have forged a very meaningful relationship.
“Spotty,” as I like to call him, has helped me overcome the most wicked of carpet stains. When the cats urinated under the coffee table, Spotty did the trick. Red wine on an area rug? Spotty came to the rescue.
With Spotty’s help, I was able to attack even the oldest stains on our carpet — dating back to the previous homeowners, in fact! I couldn’t tell you what composed these stains, but after being ground in for heaven-knows-how-long, the SpotBot removed them without a trace.
I particularly like that the SpotBot works just as well on its automatic Smart Sensor setting as it does when I use the manual hand tool. I found the latter especially helpful when I needed to shampoo our carpeted entry-foyer stairs.
The machine has virtually no learning curve. The settings and tools are all self-explanatory, and refilling the cleaning-solution reservoir (and emptying the dirty-solution reservoir) is a snap.
If the SpotBot has a downside at all, it’s the cost of the cleaning solution. The machine seems to gulp it down. And there are actually two chemicals that drive the SpotBot: Little Green and Oxy Gen. The latter is optional, but I find the machine works best when both chemicals are employed. If you buy a bottle of each, you’ve spent around $12. That buys you maybe nine or ten spot cleanings.
However, when I compare this to the cost of hiring a professional company to hide the sins of my cats — and the sins of guests who refuse to wipe their feet — I’ll take Spotty any day.
