We purchased this unit in 2004 because it was highly rated by Consumer Reports. It was installed professionally by the company from whom we bought it. It worked well until slightly more than a year later the plastic door handle broke, rendering it useless. We paid over $140 to the official Amana repair service to replace the handle. My wife purchased an extended service contract from the repairman. A year and a half later the new part broke making the handle inoperative again. I can only conclude that this part is defective yet we were not able to get any satisfaction from the company. They refused to honor the extended service contract. After numerous discussions with the Westinghouse Co. they only offered to send a replacement part and refused to repair the handle. The dishwasher still functions but because the handle is broken it leaks onto the Kitchen floor and I assume it will break completely. Such a key part should not be made so poorly. This unit lasted only three years and I understand that dishwashers should last at least ten years and that has been my experience with my family’s dishwashers. Other companies use metal door handles. While this dishwasher was inexpensive it was not the base model. I would not recommend this dishwasher to anyone and would think seriously before dealing with this company.
