I purchased a GE Monogram ZBD6880 in my new home mostly based upon the incredibly sleek appearance. It features an all-stainless front, all-stainless interior, and heavy steel handle. The interior has two levels with fold-down tines and is notable in that it lacks a wash tower, which means the full bottom is available for dishes. I have a hard surface countertop, and installation was smooth (not true for the Kenmore Elite)

A year in, I still love how it looks — even better than the Bosch. It looks great next to the Monogram fridge, and really stands out. Alas, the wash performance hasn’t matched my expectations: I’ve experienced issues with soap dispensing, the unit is louder than expected, and I have to use the inefficient pots and pans cycle to get reasonably clean dishes.

I previously had a GE Triton XL (5000-series) dishwasher, and this is certainly a peer with that, but at more than twice the price, I can’t honestly say I’m pleased with the performance. I like the capacity, especially for large pots and pans below (no wash tower). Some of the high-efficiency cycles seem very appealing environmentally, but only pots and pans seems to get the job done.

Here are a few tips to improve wash performance:

- load the dishwasher from back to front, as the rear seems to get cleaner

- never put flat things near the door, water must reach the soap dispenser

- use a liquid soap - especially avoid “tablet” style soap

- pre-soak any baked on food - water jets just aren’t overwhelming

- ensure you have sufficient water pressure: low pressure was a big problem

- consider a water softener - hard water quickly degraded performance
